Baltasar Álvarez Restrepo fue ordenado sacerdote en [[1931]]. En [[1949]] fue nombrado obispo auxiliar de Manizales, y en [[1952]] fue nombrado primer obispo de la diócesis de Pereira (Colombia). Se retiró en [[1976]], por motivos de edad.<br /> <br /> En [[1959]] contactó a los escolapios de Colombia para que establecieran un colegio en su diócesis. Los escolapios accedieron. En [[1960]] comenzaron las clases en locales provisionales, mientras se construía el colegio nuevo. En [[1970]] empezaron las clases en la nueva sede.
