Probablemente influyó en la fundación de las Escuelas Pías de Calizzano la proximidad de Carcare, donde las Escuelas Pías habían sido organizadas con gran prestigio. Allí se abrió una escuela en [[1650]], período en que la Orden se había reducido a Congregación secular sin votos, bajo la subordinación de los obispos locales. Para la habitación de los religiosos y actividad escolar y religiosa se dispuso del antiguo convento de los dominicos, con la iglesia aneja.
