Es uno de los más grandes poetas dialectales de Cerdeña, llamado el «Padre Luca» (nombre de su padre) o también el «Padre Solle» (nombre de la granja en que vivió y escribió poemas durante una época de depresión nerviosa). Se ordenó sacerdote en [[1773]]. Enseñó primero en la isla y luego en Florencia, donde se perfeccionó en italiano, según las directrices del gobierno. Al regresar a Cerdeña enseñó hasta que incurrió en el agotamiento indicado. Al verse recuperado, estuvo al cuidado de la iglesia. Siotto Pintor lo denomina el «Píndaro de Cerdeña»; Valeri lo proclama el «Orfeo sardo». Escribió innumerables poesías en latin, griego e italiano.
