En [[1650]] entró en la Orden de Malta, y en [[1651]] participó en la defensa de Creta contra los turcos. En [[1683]] participó en la defensa de Viena también contra los turcos.<br />
<br />
En [[1668]] fue ordenado sacerdote y obispo de Nitra (Eslovaquia). En [[1670]] fue nombrado obispo de Wiener Neustadt, y en [[1686]], de Györ. Ese año fue nombrado Cardenal por el Papa Inocencio XI. En [[1690]] fue nombrado arzobispo de Kalocsa, y en [[1695]], de Esztergom, sede primada de Hungría.<br />

Los escolapios de Hungría siempre lo tuvieron como protector. Dice de él el P. Viñas (Esbozo): “amantísimo padre y partidario de las Escuelas Pías en todas partes, y benignísimo con ellas en Hungría, que siempre nos ayudó en nuestras gestiones ante la corte imperial, dándonos su patrocinio y eficaz consejo”. Fue él quien pidió que de Prievidza fuera un grupo de escolapios a Brezno, para evangelizar aquella zona “infestada de protestantes”. En [[1674]] les confió la parroquia de la localidad; en [[1675]] comenzó a funcionar un colegio, en el que siguieron hasta que se vieron obligados a abandonarlo en [[1857]].<br />
<br />
El mismo cardenal ayudó a que los escolapios pudieran instalarse en Sväty Jur (Eslovaquia), en una propiedad que les había legado el Cardenal Jorge Szelepcsényi en [[1685]], y en donde siguen todavía hoy.<br />
