Ante la invasión francesa y hallándose de permiso en La Coruña, marchó a Cádiz. Se presentó a las Cortes y solicitó permiso para pasar a México y establecer un colegio. Como no se daba permiso para este viaje a los religiosos regulares, obtuvo la exclaustración. Pasó entonces a Veracruz donde regentó una cátedra en el Seminario conciliar. Fue nombrado también Examinador sinodal de varias diócesis: Oaxaca, Puebla de los Ángeles, México; finalmente llegó a ser Director del seminario. También ostentó la presidencia en diversas sociedades.
